CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -

Sunday is National Missing Children's Day and the Ohio Attorney General released the annual report of missing children in the state.

The report indicates that 18,599 children were reported missing in 2013, with 18,338 of them recovered safely – that's 98.6 percent.

The statistics are based on cases entered into the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) database. Ohioans reported missing to NCIC in 2013 are in these categories:

  • Zero to five years old: 151
  • Six to 12 years old: 975
  • 13 to 17 years old: 17,473
  • 18 and older: 4,312

"While the majority of those reported missing each year return home safely, there are still more than 450 adults and children listed as missing today in the Ohio Attorney General's Missing Persons Database," said Attorney General DeWine.

The database can be viewed on the Attorney General's website, and DeWine urged Ohioans to browse the photos of children and adults who are currently missing in Ohio.

"In honor of National Missing Children's Day on Sunday, I urge Ohioans to log onto our website and browse the photos and information regarding children and adults who are currently missing in this state, because you could have the information that can help bring some of these individuals home."

The Ohio statistics are only a fraction of the missing children across the United States. The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children has state-by-state lists of open cases with photos and descriptions. Find them at missingkids.com
