PRESCOTT, AZ (CBS5) -

Three people were taken into custody in separate drug busts in Yavapai County last week.

On Wednesday, YCSO K-9 deputies pulled a vehicle over for making several lane change violations and speeding on Interstate 40 in the Ash Fork area.

Two people from California were in the vehicle - a 31-year-old man and his passenger, 33-year-old Ruben Plaza. The pair was unusually nervous and seemed confused regarding their travel timeline and plans, deputies said.

The deputy's police dog alerted on the trunk area that contained a large duffle bag with 48 pounds of marijuana packed for transportation and sales, YCSO said.

An investigation determined Plaza was chiefly responsible for the marijuana. He told deputies it was heading to Texas for distribution.

On Tuesday at 7 a.m., Adrian Jemison, 40, of California, was arrested on charges of possession/transportation of marijuana for sale. He remains in custody on a $15,000 bond.

K-9 deputies were monitoring traffic on I-40 near Ash Fork when they said they noticed a vehicle make several unsafe lane changes around passenger vehicles and in one case a tractor-trailer.

The deputies' police dog alerted to the odor of narcotics inside. A search revealed a duffle bag on the back seat containing nearly 22 pounds of marijuana in multiple bundled packages, YCSO said.

Jemison admitted that he was being paid to transport the marijuana to Alabama for distribution, deputies said.

Earlier that day, K-9 deputies stopped a vehicle on I-40 near Ash Fork for making several moving violations.

Authorities arrested 26-year old Christyna Romero and 28-year-old Jessica Sandoval on suspicion of transportation of marijuana for sale, possession of marijuana for sale, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The pair is from New Mexico and each has since been released on a $25,000 bond.

A police dog alerted to the couple's rear passenger side of the vehicle. An assisting deputy opened the tailgate of the covered truck bed and found three duffle bags, each containing several packages of marijuana. They weighed 75 pounds total.

Deputies located paperwork indicating very extensive travel miles in recent days between California and the Phoenix area.
