CORINTH, MS -
(WMC) - A North Mississippi woman is heartbroken as she remembers her father who was shot and killed doing what he loved.

Cleo Henderson was working as a cab driver in Corinth, Mississippi when someone shot and killed him early Sunday morning.

WMC Action News 5's Lauren Squires spoke to family who thinks they know what might have motivated the killer.

According to his daughter, Melody Patterson, 66-year-old Henderson was a cab driver for more than 40 years.

Everyone in Corinth knew him and almost everyone had a story about him, though none of those stories ended like this one.

Patterson cannot understand why anyone would hurt her father.

"He was a good man, he just wanted peace," said Patterson. "Very friendly, he loved life."

When a community loses someone like Henderson, it is hard for everyone to understand why.

"It would have been easier to deal with if he had been taken by his maker and not somebody's ignorance," added Patterson.

Police say Henderson died around 3 a.m. on Sunday following a robbery at the Liberty Cab Stand on Taylor Street. His co-worker last heard from him around 1:00 a.m. while Henderson was eating at McDonald's.

"They took away a good man, who probably would have given them a free ride," noted Patterson.

By Sunday afternoon, word of Henderson's death spread around Corinth and so did the stories about his desire to help people.

Patsy Willbank drove by his home Sunday afternoon, asking the question on everyone's mind.

"I didn't have a car and he would come pick me up and take me to the grocery story, the dollar store. Get stuff that I needed," said Willbank. "Who robbed him? Somebody on drugs, that thought he had a lot of money on him."

A question that will remain, as a community says goodbye to a man who has - literally - been around the block a few times.

"He was a whole lot of good things. And there's a lot of people that's going truly miss him," added Patterson.

Police believe Henderson was robbed because there were a few items missing from his cab. His daughter says one of those items was an old railroad money bag, used to carry his medication, not his money.
