AIKEN, SC (WFXG) - State Troopers in South Carolina are telling drivers to buckle up. Beginning May 19th, Buckle Up South Carolina will kick off.
Troopers said it's important, especially during this time of year.
"There's increased traffic with people coming out of school and people traveling on vacation," Lance Corporal Judd Jones said.
Last year, 768 people died on the roadways.
"In South Carolina, we have 91% of people using seatbelts," Jones said, " but when it comes to fatalities, people aren't wearing their seatbelts."
Jones said 256 have happened so far this year. But their goal is zero.
Drive Bob Brandon said he thinks the crackdown is a good thing
"Everyone needs a level of protection," Brandon said, "and if people are out there speeding, they don't need to be doing that."
