Women's veterans club of the CSRA opens new office

AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) -

An organization dedicated to helping female veterans opened their new facility on Wednesday, afternoon.

The Women's Veterans Club of the CSRA had a ribbon cutting ceremony for their office on Damascus Road, as part of a welcoming to the Chamber of Commerce.

The organization started with 7 people in 2009 and has since grown.

Leaders of the group say their main focus is helping women who served in the military transition from military to civilian life after leaving the armed forces.

"While we were in there, we became like a sisterhood," said Watha Alston-Hooper, Commander for the group. "So this is like a sisterhood-sorority to us. Men have always had their positions in veterans club like the American Legion, the VFW and stuff. We still could join those but we wanted our own so that we could have our own voice."

The Women's Veteran Club of the CSRA is located:

3062 Damascus Road Suite J
