High 5 4 Kids: Mensah Obryant

NORTH AUGUSTA, SC (WFXG) -

In a few weeks, Mensah Obryant will not only graduate from North Augusta High but he will have a pre-engineering certificate from Aiken Tech.

"I started going to engineering class at school and they put me in the second and that was my first year," Mensah said.

Because of this, his teacher recommended him for the program at the technical school.

"The first year I was going in the morning and making a transition back to school for the afternoon classes," Mensah said, "and this year I went to the school first and I went to the college classes."

With course work between two schools, Mensah said it's wasn't always easy.

"It was stressful," Mensah said. "It wasn't a walk in the park. You have to do your work. Once you start focusing on getting your work, it runs pretty smoothly."

But his father notes that he has had a good balance.

"You need to be able to get your work done and get structured, but you need to be able to go out and hang out with your friends," Wayne Obryant said.

And in addition to hanging with friends, there is one thing Mensah enjoys doing.

"I just like to play basketball," Mensah said.

Mensah plans on starting college at USC Aiken in the fall.
