AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) -

A 29-year-old man is behind bars after Richmond County deputies said he shot another man in the face Saturday night at an apartment complex at Broad and Third streets.

Levi Frank Jr. is charged with aggravated assault and possession of a firearm or knife during the commission of a crime, according to the Richmond County Sheriff's Office.

Neighbors nearby say people living around the apartment complex are worried.

"It has a lot of people around here freaked out,"Jack Maddox said, "they're not used to that stuff and just the sheer number of cops that showed up had people panicking."

The victim, 25-year-old Shane Jeffrey Brock, approached an officer who was conducting a traffic stop at Broad and Third streets just before 9 p.m., according to an incident report. Brock told the officer he had been shot in the face. The officer reported hearing a faint gunshot right before Brock approached him.

Brock told the deputy that Frank shot him in the face outside Renaissance Village Apartments, according to the report.

That's right down the street from Maddox and his family. Still he said he isn't worried.

"We know we have to pay a little bit more attention than we would if we lived somewhere else, but for the most part, we feel good about walking with our kids and stuff like that," Maddox said.

Brock was transported to Georgia Regents Medical Center, and Frank was arrested and booked at the Richmond County Jail.
