AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) - There was another push for a smoke-free Augusta in the commission chambers on Tuesday.
Representatives from Healthy Augusta stood before commissioners, pleading to make public venues like bars and restaurants smoke free.
The commission struck down a ban last year that would force smokers to smoke outside establishments. Still representatives from Healthy Augusta say a ban is necessary to ensure the safety of those who do not smoke.
"If cigarette smoke only impacted the smoker, I think it would be a different story," said Dr. Selina Smith, the facilitator for Healthy Augusta. "We know that whether it's the nicotine from cigarette smoking or vapors from the e-cigarettes, it still causes detriment to the person sitting next to you."
Healthy Augusta representatives said even if the commission knocks down another ban, they will continue to make changes until one is passed.
