A scholarship fund has been set up in memory of a University of Alabama swimmer who died last week saving his girlfriend's life.
Monday, the Alabama Swimming and Diving Alumni established the John Servati Memorial Scholarship Fund as a way to honor Servati.
"John was an extraordinary young man and this is a way that we can honor his legacy and continue the good work that he started while he was here," UA swim team head coach Dennis Pursley said in a press release.
Lauren Swann says Servati saved her life during Monday night's severe weather. After a retaining wall collapsed on top of them, Servati held it up long enough to let Swann esape.
Servati's funeral was held last weekend in his hometown of Tupelo, Miss. The rising senior was a three-time member of the SEC Honor Roll and an SEC Championships scorer.
