AIKEN, SC (WFXG) - Friday marked a milestone year for the annual lobster race in Downtown Aiken, as it was the 30th anniversary.
The race was founded in 1985 as an alternative to the Kentucky Derby and covers Newberry Street and The Alley.
The race isn't just about fun, however. Participants said it's also about charity. A portion of the proceeds go to help many local charities throughout the Aiken area.
"We love doing these things for charities and things like that," Up Your Alley restaurant owner, Dr. Phillip Jordan. "We've been really blessed and had a really successful time so far with both our restaurants. So, we're really happy to give back to the community and do our party to help people that need it."
Organizers say they have already started planning for next year.
