AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) - A prominent Richmond County school administrator won't be returning next school year.
Lucy C. Laney High School principal Tonia Mason has officially submitted her resignation.
This will take effect June 30th but despite an ongoing investigation of Mason, she said she has been planning to move to be closer to her daughter.
Mason was recruited by Richmond County Board of Education to Laney in 2010 to implement a School Improvement Grant aimed at reforming the school and boosting achievement.
The Richmond County School System began an investigation involving Mason earlier this year, the details of which have not been released.
Deputy Superintendent Tim Spivey says he is not able to comment on the investigation. It is internal.
