Man shot in leg at Augusta motel

AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) - One man was shot in the leg at the Augusta Lodge on Gordon Highway around 11:15 p.m. Thursday.

Richmond County Deputies were called to the motel after there were reports of shots being fired. They found several nine millimeter casings in the bedroom and bathroom of one of the motel rooms.

Deputies were then called to Albermarle Dr. where they found the victim with a gunshot wound to the groin. The victim was taken to GRU and was treated for his injuries. He told deputies he had been leaving the Augusta Lodge when the shooting took place.

One woman staying at the Augusta Lodge, who wishes to remain anonymous, says she thought the gunshots were coming from the TV show she was watching.

"Last night I heard a gunshot. I assumed it was on the television so I turned my TV down and then I heard another gunshot. So after that second gunshot me and my husband ran to the restroom and got on the floor. I really freaked out and panicked because I didn't know what was what and what bullet was coming where and what was going so I just ran in the bathroom and got on the floor," she says.

Deputies are still looking for the shooter and anyone with information that can help lead to an arrest are asked to contact the Richmond County Sheriff's Office.
