Deputies: 2 men linked to string of storage facility burglaries

AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) - Two men who deputies say are linked to more than 130 burglaries at four storage facilities were arrested Thursday morning, according to the Richmond County Sheriff's Office.

Robert Leon Parks, 19, and Darius Jerome Wright, 23, were arrested shortly after 2 a.m. when deputies were staking out Midway Self Storage Facility at 1735 Barton Chapel Road.

Deputies were stationed at the facility because 14 units there already had been burglarized, according to the sheriff's office. Deputies say they caught Parks and Wright breaking into one of the units. After a short pursuit on foot, Parks and Wright were arrested.

The two men are linked to burglaries at three other facilities since early March, according to the sheriff's office. Those burglaries include:

  • 16 units at A Tech Storage at 3114 Augusta Tech Drive on March 3
  • 68 units at Iron Guard Self Storage at 1805 Wylds Road on April 17
  • 41 units at American Self Storage at 3353 Wrightsboro Road on April 21

Televisions, guns, bicycles and other valuables were stolen during the burglaries, deputies said.

Between the four facilities, a total of 139 units were burglarized, deputies said. Parks and Wright are being held at the Richmond County detention center on four counts of burglary each.

Deputies said the pair will eventually be charged with a total of 139 counts of burglary each, as the forced entry into each unit constitutes one count of burglary each.

The investigation is ongoing, and deputies said more arrests are expected.
