Pair charged in attempted robbery of jewelry store

BEECH ISLAND, SC (WFXG) - A man and a woman are behind bars after an attempted robbery Wednesday at a jewelry store in Beech Island.

James Antonio Frazier, 18, and Vanessa Drummings, 20, are accused of trying to rob Windsor Jewelers at 4367 Jefferson Davis Highway, according to the Aiken County Sheriff's Office.

An employee of the business told investigators that the couple parked their car several times in front of the business, according to the sheriff's office. A man in the backseat had a red shirt wrapped around his face. The female driver came into the business.

When the woman left, the employee locked the door and saw the man with the red shirt on his face walk from behind the building. The couple got back into the vehicle and drove away.

The employee was able to get the license plate number and the make and model of the vehicle, and report the incident to the sheriff's office.

Officers with the Aiken Department of Public Safety stopped a vehicle matching the employee's description and arrested Drummings and Frazier on charges not related to the attempted robbery.

After investigating, deputies charged both Frazier and Drummings with attempted robbery.

Frazier is also charged with unlawful carrying a pistol, possession of firearm by a convicted felon and mask-wearing.
