AIKEN, SC (WFXG) - The Aiken Department of Public Safety needs your help in finding an assault and battery suspect.
Officers said Marion Lonnelle Pope, 30, is wanted on three counts of first degree assault and battery.
"We responded there because there were reports of multiple gun shots. We received numerous calls about individuals out there shooting at each other."
According to an incident report, up to 10 gunshots rang out in an Aiken neighborhood on Tuesday. No one got hurt, but Detective Jeremy Hembree with the Aiken Department of Public Safety says it could have been a lot worse.
"It's very dangerous. A bullet doesn't have an ending point and a specific destination. It only goes on a straight line with what its shot at."
Hembree said innocent bystanders, and even small children, could have been injured.
"we take that very seriously and it bothers us when that happens especially in a populated area like that at a populated time not long after school had let out where you do have a number of innocent people out in that neighborhood."
Today, the department of public safety issued a warrant out for Marion Pope's arrest - and charged him with 3 counts of 1st degree assault and battery. They're hoping the public could help them find him.
"We really want to find Mr. Pope to take him out of the streets and have him dealt with accordingly."
Anyone with information related to the whereabouts of Pope or the shooting incident is asked to contact Crimestoppers of the Midlands at 888-CRIME-SC (888-274-6372). Callers will remain anonymous and could be eligible for a cash reward of up to $1000.
