Jamie Everett says her life will never be the same without her little boy.

"He had a smile that just lit up anybody that was around him," mother Jamie Everett says. "He was definitely a mamma's boy. He was always wanting to hold my hand and cuddle with me."

Her 7-year-old son Shane Nichols was tragically killed Monday morning. Her 12-year-old son picked up a gun at a neighbors' home and accidentally shot and killed his brother.

"Please, please parents out there, keep them {guns} locked up. There's nothing wrong with owning guns, but just make sure they are safely locked and put away and out of reach because in a split second your life can change," Everett says.

The boys didn't have school and a neighbor next-door was watching the boys. The Franklin County Sheriff's Office ruled the death an accident, but are still looking into the circumstances that led up to the shooting.

Everett says a viewing will be held Friday at Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center in Rocky Mount from 5 to 7 p.m. The funeral is Saturday at Mountain View Memorial Park at 11 a.m. Friends have also set up a donation fund to help the family with funeral expenses. You can go to any SunTrust branch and donate to the 'Shane Nichols Donation.'
