Aiken Co. deputies may get raise

Deputies in Aiken County could soon get a pay raise.

Aiken County Sheriff Michael Hunt is asking county taxpayers for about $2.3 million more to give each of his deputies a 20 percent raise.

The sheriff told council he's lost dozens of employees because of low pay — 15 road deputies in 2013 alone.

If council approves the increase, a homeowner with a $200,000 house would pay about $32 more in milage rate.
