Grant Hedgepeth running for Jones County Circuit Judge

JONES COUNTY, MS (WDAM) -

Attorney Grant Hedgepeth announced his candidacy for Circuit Court Judge of the 18th District Wednesday. Hedgepeth made the announcement at his law office located in Ellisville.

For the past 27 years, Hedgepeth said he has served Jones County as District Attorney, Assistant Attorney General, Public Defender and as private attorney for hundreds of people. He said he want to put that experience to work for Jones County as circuit court judge.

"I have the best rounded experience of any of the candidates out there," said Hedgepeth.

Hedgepeth said he qualified for circuit judge this past Friday.

"I felt like this was the opportunity to step in and try to offer my services and experience to the county," said Hedgepeth.

He said his time to run is now.

"When I saw other people getting in the race I said, 'Well this is the first contested race in many years so this is my opportunity,'" said Hedgepeth. "If I wait, then if somebody else gets in there besides Judge Landrum, it may be another twenty years before I have the opportunity to run, so in my age I don't want to wait twenty years. I'm fifty-two-years-old, plenty of experience, I'm young enough to have plenty of energy to get the job done and when I looked at the field that has come up I simply have the best experience for the job."

Hedgepeth said he loves Jones County and wants to serve as circuit court judge in order to make the county an even better place to hand down to the children and grand-children. If elected circuit judge, Hedgepeth said he plans to make the court system run more quickly and swiftly so that justice can be acknowledged for everyone in a timely manner.

From now until November, Hedgepeth said he plans to shake as many hands and ask Jones County residents to vote for him. His campaign headquarters is located inside his law office.
