Georgia Supreme Court upholds man's life prison sentence for murder

AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) - A Richmond County man convicted of a 2009 murder will remain behind bars.

The Supreme Court of Georgia upheld Carl Gibbs' life prison sentence and his convictions for malice murder, armed robbery and possession of a firearm during murder.

Gibbs was convicted in 2009 of killing 68-year-old Judson Pilcher Boyd at a Fairmont Street home.

The court did throw out one of Gibbs' two consecutive five-year sentences for two counts of possession of a firearm. The court ruled that Gibbs should have been sentenced for only one of the possession of a firearm charges because both counts involved a single killing.
