FORREST COUNTY, MS (WDAM) -

The McLaurin Volunteer Fire Dept. will soon begin free CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation), AED (automated external defibrillator) and first aid training as part of a new program funded by a $4,000 grant from the Plum Creek Foundation.

It's called Operation Community Life Saver. The grant will offset the cost of training up to 300 residents in the McLaurin and Camp Dantzler communities.

Each class will last 4-8 hours.

"Some of the community members cannot pay out-of-pocket, so this grant is allowing us to give the instructions to them, so that maybe they can save a life if need be," said Orrin Berry, chief of the McLaurin Volunteer Fire Dept.

"Even if it's just one person or ten people, that's one more person in the community that can learn more about saving someone's life," said Maria Cuevas, medical training officer for the McLaurin Volunteer Fire Dept.
