PRESCOTT, AZ (CBS News) -

A Prescott man was jailed after a bar fight in which an intervening Prescott police officer took a shot to the chin.

Two officers on foot patrol said they saw Jacob D.Schmid, 27, and another man fighting in front of a bar in the 100 block of South Montezuma Street at closing time early Sunday morning.

One man stopped fighting at the officers' commands but Schmid continued to try to fight the man and then turned on officers. They placed him under arrest but he swung several times, hitting one of the officers with a closed fist on the jaw.

Schmid was eventually taken down and restrained.

Witnesses said Schmid was harassing several people inside the bar, including a 21-year-old woman who said he made offensive and sexually suggestive comments, the officers said.

The other man in the fight was a friend of her's who was trying to get Schmid to stop his harassment, she said.

The officer was treated at the scene for the punch and a minor injury to an elbow.

Schmid was booked into the Yavapai County Jail on a felony charge of aggravated assault against an officer and disorderly conduct.
