STEELE, AL (WBRC) -

Authorities in St. Clair County are searching for a bank robbery suspect.

The Alabama Peoples Independent Bank on Highway 11 in Steele was robbed around 9 a.m. Monday, according to the FBI's Birmingham office. The bank opens at 8:30 a.m.

A black male suspect showed a handgun, then fled on foot to a subdivision, the FBI tweeted around 9:40 a.m. The FBI did not specify which subdivision they believe the suspect fled to.

An eyewitness who didn't want to be interviewed on camera said she drove up to the bank's front door just as a man wearing black pants, a black hoodie and a "Scream" mask was running out the door. She said he ran on foot across the highway and behind a house.

FBI spokesman Paul Daymond said there were no injuries in the robbery.

So far, no suspects have been arrested. St. Clair County investigators and the FBI are investigating the case.
