PASCAGOULA, MS (WLOX) -

One of the largest annual fundraisers on the coast recently kicked off its efforts to help raise money for education, arts, and youth in the community. The Bacot-McCarty Foundation's annual  "Jolly" golf tournament and gala are next month. Organizers want to make this a banner year for raising money to help those in need.

Resurrection school students in Pascagoula take pride in athletics, as well as education. Thanks to the Bacot-McCarty Foundation, the school has been receiving some extra funds to help them maintain that pride.

"We were able to actually get their football program at Resurrection by buying them their first uniforms. We are watching a state tennis tournament and talking with the athletic director about some needs going forward," Executive Director Todd Trenchard said.

For 10 years, Executive Director Todd Trenchard and his foundation have focused on improving arts, education and supporting youth organizations across the coast.

"I think some of the organizations that people probably know that we help quite a bit are because we are so passionate about what we do is the Dream Program, Special Olympics, YMCA, Ronald McDonald House, we also help obviously the Boys and Girls Clubs," Trenchard said.

Director of Programs Elizabeth Cumbest Byrd said the foundation hired her and she received money for school.

"The foundation actually offered me a scholarship to help pay for me to go to school and I continue to work at the Bacot- McCarty Foundation. Fast-forward four years later, I have stayed with the foundation and learned a whole lot," Byrd said.

The foundation is now gearing up for its two big fundraisers in May: The Jolly Golf Tournament and gala. The hope is that South Mississippians will dig deep in their pockets and give a lot this year.

"The Jolly McCarty Memorial has raised $3 million, a little bit over $3 million, that has gone back into our community," Trenchard said.

"The monies that you give really, truly make a difference," said Byrd.

"The Jolly" golf tournament on May 10th at Shell Landing Gautier is sold out. There are tickets still available for reception gala and silent auction at the IP Casino Resort and Spa on May 9th for $50.  For details, contact Todd Trenchard at (228) 934-1338
