AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) - A fire destroyed a house in the 1900 block of Telfair Street Friday afternoon.
Authorities say they received the call at 1:51 p.m. after two boys walking down Telfair Street saw the house on fire and called 911.
Lieutenant Neal Brown with the Augusta Bureau of Fire Prevention says the house is a vacant property and no public utilities are connected in the property.
One neighbor said he was walking home from the store when he saw the firetrucks and crews putting out the flames.
Lieutenant Brown says since the house was vacant crews had to break into the house in order to extinguish the fire.
"When the firefighters arrived they had heavy smoke and some fire on the back right-hand corner of this property. Once they entered the property, because it was boarded and secured, once they got the front opened up and got in they began to extinguish the fire," says Lt. Brown.
