Barrow tours Serta factory in Grovetown

GROVETOWN, GA (WFXG) -

In the latest swing on his 'Made in Georgia' Tour, Rep. John Barrow learned all about one of America's largest mattress manufacturers.

"We can prove we've saved lives," Serta executive Al Klancnik said. "And Serta as a brand, went two and a half years before the national standard to fire retardant beds."

Company officials said a special process used in their Grovetown facilities cuts down on fires in the bedroom.

Barrow said it's innovation like this that sets American companies apart.

"Talking with folks here who are creating jobs, is probably the best way I can report to my colleagues in Congress about things that will actually work, things that will actually make things better in our economy," said Barrow.

Barrow toured the factory, watching the workers from Columbia County put together mattresses to distribute throughout the southeast.

He also listened to concerns of some company executives about future regulation that could put a crunch on the industry.

"Congress is not doing its job of exercising meaningful oversight, and as a result, the regulators are kind of going overboard," said Barrow. "They seem to have free reign and more than they're supposed to do and regulations congress never really authorized in the past."

Barrow said he'll take what he learned today back to Washington.
