TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

A San Tan Valley man has been arrested for strangling his wife during a domestic dispute, sheriff's officials said.

Boubou Lo was arrested by the Pinal County Sheriff's Office on April 10 and is currently booked into the Pinal County Jail in Florence, facing the following charges - two counts of aggravated assault, one count of assault, and disorderly conduct.  All charges fall under domestic violence statutes.

PCSO received a call early Thursday morning from a female, alleging that her husband had 'grabbed her by the throat' after an argument, shook her and then slapped her.  According to a PCSO release she was able to get away and call the police, her husband then ran from the home after allegedly threatening her.

The victim told PCSO deputies her husband had tried to strangle her on three other occasions, but that she had not called the police to report it.

Deputies reported the victim's injuries were similar to those of someone who had been strangled; she was transported to the hospital for treatment of those injuries.

Boubou Lo was found later by PCSO deputies at his work place, according to the release, the deputies interviewed him and then arrested him.

"This very easily could have ended much worse for the victim. I commend her for taking a stand and having the courage to finally call law enforcement and report these crimes that have been perpetrated against her," said Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu in the release. "This is National Crime Victim Rights week. Most Victims of Domestic Violence never call law enforcement for help and therefore never receive medical attention, counseling and support they desperately need. We urge victims of crime to call us for help, so we can intercede on their behalf."
