CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -

Sometimes you just need a hug, which is why Xavier University students offered the warming of a free hug to complete strangers on Fountain Square.

About 20 students and their leader, Rabbi Abie Ingber, gathered in the heart of downtown Cincinnati on Friday. They held up signs saying "FREE HUGS," in addition to translations on the reverse side in Arabic, Hebrew, Spanish, French, Italian and German.

It wasn't to raise money, nor to protest anything. It wasn't even to skip exams. They were just giving hugs.

The event is a part of Golden Rule Week, a week-long celebration hosted by the Center for Interfaith Community Engagement. Participants demonstrate the "Golden Rule" for different faith traditions, in which you "do unto others as you would have them do unto you."

Rabbi Ingber said the day is a chance to share the positive emotions a hug provides, especially after a long and cold winter.

You can get a free hug on Fountain Square until 2 p.m. Friday.
