KINGMAN, AZ (CBS5) -

Firefighters in northwest Arizona performed an odd extrication Wednesday morning after a bull managed to get three of its legs trapped in a cattle guard.

When crews arrived in the area of Getz Ranch and DW Ranch roads in Kingman, they sized up the situation and concluded their best bet was to use extrication tools to try to free the animal.

Firefighters tried to spread the cars apart enough for the bull to free its legs. No such luck, said Pinion Pine Fire District Lt. Ron Hood.

Crews then began cutting each end of the bars to widen the space.

Eventually, they were able to successfully remove enough material to allow the bull to step out of the cattle guard, Hood said.

Personnel stood back and waited for about 10 minutes for the bull to climb out.

Firefighters said it appears the animal will be OK, ending up with only a few scrapes and some sore muscles.
