DOTHAN, AL (WSFA) -

If you were in downtown Dothan Wednesday, you may have noticed that the power went out. Authorities were able to isolate the cause and had service restored within about 45 minutes.

A spokesman with Dothan utilities said the outage happened after equipment operated at a substation on Monument Street failed due to some wildlife.

Cassandra Milton, with the city of Dothan, said two woodpeckers got onto the main switch for the substation, subsequently tripping a breaker.

The Dothan Police Department says 26 traffic lights were disabled, as well as most of Central Dothan. The police department deployed crews to manage traffic and keep vehicles flowing until the power was restored.
