MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

The suspect charged in the murder that occurred on April 1 in Montgomery was out on bond for seven weeks before he allegedly fired the fatal shots.

According to court records, 20-year-old Denelson Brown has a storied past with the criminal justice system, and a likely connection to the murder victim, 19-year-old Ezra Thomas of Elmore.

Brown lived on Luckytown Road in Elmore County, the same street as the victim. In February however, Brown moved to Montgomery, only blocks from the murder scene on Delray Road.

In 2012, Brown pled guilty to first degree robbery, an armed burglary charge was dropped. He served time, but Brown's probation was revoked after he was charged with possession of marijuana, and returned to prison. Following negative marks on his records, including failure to appear in court and other revocation hearings, Brown was arrested on new felony counts in 2013. This time he was arrested for possession of an illegal substance and obstruction of justice. Brown posted bond on the felony charges on February 6. Less than two months later he is back behind bars, this time allegedly for murder.

Brown made his initial appearance in Montgomery County Court on Tuesday morning. Ironically, he missed a show-cause hearing in Elmore County on the robbery case from 2012, set for 8:15 a.m., likely for missing restitution payments.

He remains in the Montgomery County Detention Facility on a $75,000 bond.
