LOWNDES CO., AL (WSFA) -

The Lowndes County Sheriff's Department and Agents of the Alabama ABC Board located and destroyed two illegal operational moonshine stills near the Collirene Community on Tuesday.

ABC Agents Lowndes County Sheriff's deputies located the stills about two months ago, but waited to move in on the stills until more information was known and the suspects were identified. ABC Agents arrested Henry Rudolph and Derry Andrews at the scene, and both were transported to the Lowndes County Jail where they were charged initially with possession of an illegal still.

The first still was capable of making 19 barrels of mash, and Agents seized five gallons of finished moonshine. The second still, believed to be operated by the same persons, was capable of producing 15 barrels of mash. Agents did not find any finished product at the second still.

Agents believe the suspects tapped into the county water line and stole water to use in the cooking process. The Lowndes County Water Board is involved and has not determined if they will pursue charges.
