The American Red Cross Palmetto S.C. Region assisted more than 400 people in March who were displaced by house fires.
The organization helped a total of 426 people in March who were displaced by 142 house fires, according to a release. April hasn't let up, with 20 fires across the region in just the first four days of the month.
"March was a continuation of a busy January and February for the American Red Cross and our response to home fires across our region," said Derek Dugan, Chapter Executive Director. "The Red Cross needs the community's support to help so many displaced after home fires."
After a fire the American Red Cross assists with emergency needs of those impacted including temporary lodging, food, essential hygiene items, health services, and emotional support people may need as they recover from a home fire. Officials say peak fire season runs from October through March.
