SELMA, AL (WSFA) -

The Selma Police Department has made an arrest in connection to an arson investigation.

The Selma Police and Fire Department responded to a fire alarm in the 2300 block of Main Street on Saturday at 3:15 a.m. When the officers and firemen arrived, the residence of 2303 Main St. was engulfed in flames. After crews put out the fire, the Selma fire chief spotted a male standing in a darkened area near the scene. When the fire chief confronted the male, he stated that he had set the house on fire.

The subject was detained by Selma police officers and was transported to the Selma Police Department. Police identified the subject as 25-year-old Jessie Bell, and during the interview Bell stated that he set the fire in retaliation for the death of his brother, Arthur Bell. Upon further investigation, police discovered that Jessie's brother died in a vehicle accident as a passenger nearly 15 years ago, in which the resident, of the house that was set on fire, was the driver. The resident of the house was not injured during the fire.

Jessie Bell was arrested by police on "probable cause" for second degree arson. Bell was transported to the Dallas County Jail with a bond set at $30,000.
