Lightning strikes house, starts fire

EVANS, GA (WFXG) -

Firefighters are working to put out a house fire that was caused by lightning.

The fire started at 1315 Maple Leaf Ct. Monday afternoon when lightning struck the house, Columbia County EMA Director Pam Tucker said. Tucker also lives in the area and said she heard the loud lightning strike and knew it hit something close by.

A neighbor who lives behind the house called 911 after his wife said she saw the lightning hit the home.
