Practice round canceled due to thunderstorms

Augusta National Golf Club (WFXG) - The Augusta National Golf Club canceled Monday's practice round at the Masters due to thunderstorms.

After just a few hours of play, patrons were asked to leave around 10 a.m. when storms started moving into the area.

"We are disappointed that our patrons could not enjoy today's practice round, however safety must be our first concern. We look forward to seeing these patrons next year," said Billy Payne, Chairman of Augusta National Golf Club and the Masters Tournament.

Patrons were disappointed that wicked weather caused a day of fun to sour.

"We got in there for about a half an hour or so, before the rain came, and then the announcement went off and they asked everyone to leave the grounds and seek shelter," said Larry Howart.

Others saw the weather a bit better.

"The last time I came here it was gross and muddy, this isn't that bad, it's just kind of misty," said Brooke Sarver.

Purchasers of Monday practice round tickets will be sent refunds in May and will be guaranteed the opportunity to purchase 2015 practice rounds tickets.

Officials said the last time gates did not open due to bad weather during a scheduled day was Monday, April 7, 2003.
