AIKEN, SC (WFXG) -

An Aiken man is accused of leaving a 2-year-old child alone while he broke into storage buildings at two Aiken homes and stole tools, according to the Aiken County Sheriff's Office.

Michael Wallace is charged with two counts of third-degree burglary and one count of unlawful conduct toward a minor, according to the sheriff's office.

Deputies responded to two burglaries in the Aiken area Wednesday: one on Old Tory Trail and one on Acorn Lane. Residents at both homes said someone forced open storage buildings on their property and stole tools.

During the investigation, a neighbor to the complainant on Old Tory Trail told deputies she spoke with a suspicious man driving an old white truck, according to the sheriff's office. She said the man told her he was looking for his dog.

She asked for a description of the dog and how to locate him if she found the dog. The man told her his address was 1090 Old Tory Trail.

The neighbor also told deputies she has a camera on her property and caught the man on video.

Deputies went to 1090 Old Tory Trail and found that Michael Wallace lives there. Some of the stolen tools were found on Wallace's property, according to the sheriff's office.

Deputies also found a 2-year-old boy, who Wallace was babysitting, alone in one of the bedrooms in the home, according to the sheriff's office. The child's parents picked the child up.

The recovered property was returned to the victims, and Wallace was booked at the Aiken County Detention Center.
