Investigators need help cracking Louisa cold case

Posted: Updated:

Investigators are asking for help to solve a 25-year-old mystery in Louisa. A woman was found dead in the town of Mineral, but no one know who she is or where she's from.

It was May 28, 1989 when a woman's body was discovered.
"There is a whole lot we don't know about the case. What we do know is she died a violent death," said Major Donnie Lowe. He responded to the scene where the body was found 25 years ago.

Investigators believe she was dumped in a wooded area at the end of Spring Road in Mineral. Her body may have been there for five or six weeks before she was found.

Some of the details of her death are too graphic to describe. She was later buried in a cemetery in Louisa under the name Jane Doe.

The body was exhumed a short time later for further investigation. That's when a clay image was created, giving a fairly accurate depiction of what she may have looked like 25 years ago.

Investigators now have a new plea to the public.

"If they have or know anybody that may be missing, that fits this description, that may have been in the area or even an adjoining state, please call us," said Major Lowe.

The department never gives up on a cold case, but he calls this particular situation one of the most heartbreaking he's seen.

"She has family somewhere. She has to have family, somebody loves her, somebody is missing her, somebody is wondering what happened to her," said Major Lowe.

If you have any information about this case, call the Louisa County Sheriff's Office at 540-967-1234.
