AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) - Local first responders were honored Wednesday with hot meals throughout the day.
Breakfast, lunch and dinner were all served at Minnick Park, free of charge to them.
The event was sponsored by Monique Braswell, former Richmond County Schools PTA president and current school board candidate, Murphey Middle School, Commissioner Will Fennoy and Augusta Parks and Recreation.
Many first responders came out and took part throughout the day.
"The job of a first responder is usually doing things or going in directions or performing tasks other people typically don't do or don't want to do," said Chief Chris James with the Augusta Fire Department. "The first responders are trained to do it. They take on this role very seriously. It's an honor to perform and what this event is, is an appreciation that the community is showing back to the first responders."
This is the fifth year the event has taken place.
