Storm damage reported in La Vergne, Smyrna

NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

Parts of Middle Tennessee were under a tornado warning Friday morning as severe storms moved through the area.

Rutherford, Smith, DeKalb and Wilson counties were included in that warning, which expired at 6:45 a.m.

Some of the most severe damage from the storm was reported in La Vergne and Smyrna.

The National Weather Service says the damage in northern Rutherford County was caused by straight-line winds. Wind gusts got up to 80 mph.

  • A roof was blown off a home in Loretto
  • A semi-truck was blown over on Highway 50 West in Centerville
  • Downed trees reported in Linden, Centerville, Franklin and Gainesboro
  • A tree fell on a car at 865 Bellevue Apartments
  • A roof was blown off a BP gas station in Smyrna
  • Telephone poles snapped on West Jefferson Pike in Walterhill
  • A tree fell on a van in the Smith County bus garage
  • A roof was partially blown off a home on East Overlook Drive in Cumberland Cove
  • A tree fell on a mobile home on Mill Creek Road outside of Cookeville
  • Trees and power lines are down at Highway 70 N and PLateau Road in Crossville

Metro's Emergency Operations Center was partially activated at 11 p.m. Thursday in anticipation of the storms.
