AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) - A portion of Mike Padgett Highway will be closed Saturday as crews work to demolish a building at the Proctor & Gamble plant.
The section of Highway 56 between Marvin Griffin Road and Phinizy Road will be closed between 7 and 11 a.m., according to the Richmond County Sheriff's Office.
Proctor & Gamble is remodeling and constructing new buildings on their property. As part of the process, they're demolishing the taller building located on the far right of the main building facing Highway 56.
Company officials are concerned about the loud noise and possible dust cloud from the demolition, so they're closing the road as a safety precaution.
The company obtained the necessary permits with the county to temporarily close the roadway, according to the sheriff's office.
