Early voting begins in Ohio for May 6 primary

Posted: Updated:

CLEVELAND (AP) - Democratic candidate for governor Ed FitzGerald was among the Ohioans casting ballots on the first day of early voting for the May 6 primary.

Voting began Tuesday in the state. In-person voting hours are mostly from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays in all 88 counties. Voters also get the Saturday before Election Day to cast a ballot.

The state says county boards of elections have so far received nearly 24,000 requests for absentee ballots.

Contests include races for congressional and state legislative seats. Ohio voters also will decide whether to renew a public works program that funds improvements to infrastructure.

FitzGerald, the Cuyahoga (ky-uh-HOH'-guh) County executive, voted at county election headquarters Tuesday morning. He's running against Democrat Larry Ealy to face Republican Gov. John Kasich (KAY'-sik) this fall.
