CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -

A Colerain Township man was sentenced to 11 years in prison on Tuesday for the death of a friend's 13-month-old son.

Daniel Hamberg was indicted by a Hamilton County grand jury in May 2012 for his involvement in the death of Cohen Barber.

Officers responded to a home in the 2800 block of John Gray Road on Feb. 1. Upon arrival, Hamberg reportedly told officers that the 13-month-old had tried to jump from the top of five stairs and into his arms but he was unable to catch him. Hamberg told officers that the toddler landed on the ground and hit his head and began to seizure.

Barber was transported to Cincinnati Children's Hospital where he later died from his injuries.

He was originally charged with aggravated murder, murder, felonious assault and endangering children in 2012. In a plea agreement, Hamberg pleaded guilty to one count of involuntary manslaughter.

Hamilton County Judge Leslie Ghiz sentenced Hamberg to 11 years in prison and a $20,000 fine.
