DENMARK, SC (WIS) -

One person was killed and three others were injured in a shootout on a rural Bamberg County road Saturday afternoon.

Bamberg County Sheriff Edward Darnell said two groups of people met on the side of Voorhees Rd just outside Denmark in an apparent drug deal.

Soon after, the two groups started shooting at one another and four people were shot, Darnell said.

One person died at three others were transported to the hospital. One of the victims was taken to Palmetto Health and is in critical condition, Darnell said.

Two people were apprehended and several law enforcement agencies were looking for a third suspect, Darnell said.

The State Law Enforcement Division is assisting the Bamberg County Sheriff's Office.
