Cyber Center of Excellence ceremony kicks off on Fort Gordon

AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) - The U.S. Army Signal Center of Excellence became the Cyber Center of Excellence Friday during a ceremony at Fort Gordon.

Major General LaWarren Patterson said , "As we set up the Cyber Center of Excellence, we are in a provisional mode. That is the initial standup. Then, we will go into initial operating capability later this year and final operation capability in the 2015-2016 time frame."

General Patterson said he thinks the Cyber Center of Excellence will lead to growth of military personnel, Department of Defense workers and Department of the Army contractors.

General Patterson said, "The Army Cyber Command will be headquartered here at some point over the next 4-5 years. This summer, we'll see the first movement of the Cyber Joint Force Headquarters, which will be placed here at Fort Gordon. That will initially be about 50 people, then somewhere down the road ,it will grow out to about 75-100 people."

The current Signal Center and Signal School House will turn into the Cyber Center of Excellence.
