KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

A police officer is recovering after a suspected drunken driver crashed into her patrol car early Wednesday morning.

Kansas City police said the officer was driving north on Troost Avenue about 3:30 a.m. when another driver smashed into the driver's side of her vehicle.

The driver of the other car was headed east on 57th Street.

Officers say they were not chasing that driver. Investigators believe she may have been under the influence and ran a stop sign.

Emergency crews took both the officer and the suspected drunken driver to the hospital with minor injuries. Police said doctors are waiting on more tests, but the officer may have a fractured elbow.

The officers are expected to be released from the hospital Wednesday.

Because the driver of the other car hit the police officer's driver-side door, crews had to remove her patrol computer and pull her out of her passenger door.
