Hanover teen club raises concern - WFXG FOX 54 - News Now

Hanover teen club accused of 'teaching children inappropriate behavior'

HANOVER, VA (WWBT) -

A parent feels online promotions for a new teen club in Hanover paint disturbing pictures.

Youth are seen toasting with wine glasses and bottles being chilled on the table at Studio 360.

The concerned viewer wrote NBC12 saying "the club is teaching children inappropriate behaviors."

Pictures show the youth taking apparent champagne toasts and hoisting wine glasses.

"My child comes here and he has a good time," said Laura Franck. "I know he is not at a house party where they are unsupervised or drinking or doing goodness knows what."

Youth pay $10 to attend. Only middle school students are allowed on Friday night from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. The venue is only for high school students with a proper I. D. on Saturday from 8 p.m. to midnight. Managers say five adults are present at all times.

"And we are in here watching the kids every move," said the bar manager who did not want to be identified. "Absolutely no alcohol is allowed on the premises."

The manager says the youth toast with sparkling grape juice. Some parents don't like the fact that parents are not allowed inside.

"They are not allowed to come into the main club area and the dance floor and disrupt the kids having a good time," said the manager.

"If I'm trying to dance with a girl or dance with a friend," said club performer Taylor Melton. "I wouldn't want my mom to come yank me out."

Franck agrees.

"It's just not cool," said Franck about having parents inside. "I think it's a great place."

Still the concerned parent says "these are not behaviors one should be instilling in future generations."

The manager says he will stop selling Jell-O shots. He says he just wants the club to be a safe and fun environment for young people.
