JACKSON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) -
An attorney for a spring break promotion group said the team is still
hoping to host a Lil Boosie rap concert at the Jackson County
Fairgrounds despite a contract dispute with the county.
county officials canceled the contract to rent the fairgrounds next
month because they say the group made no mention of a concert. County
Administrator Brian Fulton said the rental contract was canceled because
it was booked under false pretense.
"On March 14, 2014, Mr.
James Winters approached the Community Center Director in Jackson County
regarding rental of the pavilion at the Jackson County Fairgrounds for
the purpose of a car show. The entire fairgrounds was not rented,"
While the county was preparing for this car show,
Fulton said county leaders found out flyers were circulating on social
media sites advertising a Lil Boosie concert and tickets were even being
"It was a little disappointing to me that this agreement was misrepresented."
According to the county, there are different rental requirements for a concert than a car show at the fairgrounds.
must be contacted through the Jackson County Fair Board with a separate
negotiated contract to address public safety concerns, fire code
requirements, traffic control, police, medical personnel and other
public safety concerns."
WLOX asked Fulton if the event's
connection with next month's Spring Break activities played any part in
the county's decision to cancel the contract.
"I don't think
it has anything to do with that. We would treat them like we treat
anything other event or any other promoter looking to come to the
fairgrounds. This would be required by Jackson County whether it was
Carrie Underwood, Jason Aldean, Marron Five or Lil Boosie concert," said
Winter's attorney, Earl Denham, didn't waste any time respondiong to county's decision.
Boosie is under contract at the Jackson County Fairgrounds. We are
going to renegotiate the contract, and, in the meantime, we feel like we
have a valid contract," said Denham. "I've seen the contract myself. This is not a scam."
Denham said they will be negotiating again with the county board attorney Friday.
