Louisiana State Police said recent traffic stops on I-10 between Baton Rouge and Lafayette resulted in the confiscation of more than 1,000 pounds of illegal drugs and netted several arrests.

Troopers reported the following suspects were taken into custody:

Christopher Jackson, 31 of Beaumont, TX

Jamorrius Gibson, 23, of Hammond

Martin Martinez, 34, of La Marque, TX (pictured)

Juan Rangle, 25, of Brownsville, TX

Tpr. Jared Sandifer said nearly 1,000 pounds of marijuana, several pounds of cocaine, nearly a kilo of MDMA, eight ounces of codeine and two handguns were confiscated during the four stops.

According to reports, a 2013 Lexus GS350 driven by Jackson was pulled over on I-10 East west of Port Allen on Feb. 26, 2014 for a traffic violation and he gave permission to search the car. Troopers reportedly found 11 pounds of cocaine, two handguns and $10,000 in cash inside the car. Jackson was booked into the West Baton Rouge Parish Jail on charges of possession with intent to distribute Schedule II narcotics, illegal carrying of weapons and improper lane usage.

Sandifer said the next stop was also on I-10 East west of LA 415 in West Baton Rouge Parish on March 21, 2014. He said a 2007 Honda Accord driven by Gibson was pulled over for a traffic violation. He added in this case, a state police K9 alerted troopers of narcotics suspected in the car. According to Sandifer, more than 100 pounds of marijuana, about 1.1 kilos (11,000 doses) of MDMA (Ecstasy) and about eight ounces of codeine syrup were found inside the car. Gibson was booked into the West Baton Rouge Parish Jail on the following charges:

Possession with intent to distribute Schedule I narcotics

Possession with intent to distribute Schedule IV narcotics

Driving under suspension

Improper lane usage

Turning movements and required signals

Troopers reported the next traffic stop was made two days later on in the same area. They said a 2007 Mercedes CL550 driven by Martinez was pulled over for a traffic violation and after he gave permission to search the car, about 244 pounds of marijuana was reportedly found inside. Martinez was booked into the West Baton Rouge Parish Jail on charges of possession with intent to distribute Schedule I narcotics and improper lane usage.

Sandifer said the very next day a 2013 Nissan Pathfinder driven by Rangle was stopped for a traffic violation on I-10 East west of Henderson in St. Martin Parish. He added a search of the SUV turned up more than 586 pounds of marijuana in bundles. Rangle was booked into the St. Martin Parish Jail on charges of possession with intent to distribute Schedule I narcotics, improper lane usage and no driver's license.
