AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) -

A 17-year-old North Carolina teen accused of killing her father is being held in Richmond County awaiting extradition.

Crystal Brooke Howell was arrested March 24 in Richmond County on a warrant initially charging her with concealing the death of her father, 50-year-old Michael Joseph Howell, according to the Haywood County Sheriff's Office in North Carolina.

Michael Howell's body was discovered March 22 by people wanting to rent his property in the Sheepback Mountain community near Maggie Valley, N.C., according to the sheriff's office.

Investigators found Michael Howell's body in a blue plastic container in a storage building behind the house, according to an incident report.

After preliminary autopsy findings released March 24 showed that Michael Howell died from a single gunshot wound to the head, a warrant was issued for first-degree murder for Crystal Howell.

The Haywood County Sheriff's Office said Crystal Howell waived her rights to an extradition proceeding. Arrangements are being made to have her transported to the Haywood County Detention Center.
