AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) - "I'm running for mayor because I have a vision for Augusta, Georgia," said Augusta mayor candidate Charles Cummings.
That vision includes an improved public transit system.
"If you go to the city, the size of Augusta, you will noticed that transit is a convenience and not an issue. Here in Augusta transit is an issue and not a convenience," said Cummings.
Cummings also wants to add an athletic venue in the area.
"We have great athletes here," Cummings said. "We can create a basketball team, football team and let them perform at a professional level."
He said his experience makes him the right man for the job.
"I have twenty years business experience. I'm a former army military intelligence captain. I've lived in Augusta for the past 24 years," said Cummings.
Cummings said a lack of transparency is what plaques Augusta the most.
"We got to have fiscal responsibility and need to be transparent with our funds. When you take the SPLOTS 6 right now, they are working on the municipal building on limited funds and they are wanting to pass a particular bill - not a splots - to increase to get more tax money," said Cummings.
